D.C. Internship

My start date for the internship has moved to June 1st. In the meantime I thought I would talk about the first photo shoot I had with Marge Ely, the photographer I'll be assisting.

On April 23rd, I drove to the D.C. National Harbor to assist Marge with her photo shoot. The shoot was to be for FW magazine, a publication of the Washington Post. I was really excited to get the opportunity. I never thought I would get the chance to be part of a fashion shoot. It was definitely a dream come true!

It was very interesting to see all of the people who are a part of making the photographs come to life. I met the makeup artist, the stylist, the art director, and other interns and assistants. Various important people came by to visit the set at different times of the day to check in on our progress. It was really nice to be surrounded by people who are interested in the same things that you are. It's a great environment to ask questions, share experiences, and learn from others.

I also learned things like, the idiot check. The idiot check is performed after shooting on a particular set and it is time to move on to the next location. Everyone involved combs the area for equipment that may have been left behind or for things that have been moved and need to be put back into place. It's a wonderful example of how everyone works together and also how everyone helps and leans on the other. These are the things you don't plan on learning, when you do, you just have to smile.
