Shepherd University artists Stefanie Mattens and Misti Walters proudly present the conclusion of their college careers with an exhibition of sophisticated images from their current collections. Each collection individually investigates society’s attraction to opulence and luxury. The exhibit is one of five senior exhibitions taking place on April 15 in Shepherdstown.

Intrigued by the splendor of high fashion, Stefanie Mattens embraces her roots in commercial design by illustrating the poise and style exhibited within homes. Mattens’ vast experience in retail furnishings has highly evolved her awareness of color theory, balance, and harmony. With this in mind, she also employs her proficiency in studio photography to create elegant, sophisticated depictions of luxurious living. Mattens captures interior environments in such a way as to evoke feelings of grandeur and desire from onlookers. While advertising is her expected career path, Facade reveals her passion and understanding within the realm of couture design.

Misti Walters, a northern Virginia resident, is a calculated, detail-oriented photographer who will not settle for less than perfection. Her interest in commercial photography ignited due to her experience as an intern for The Washington Post. Assisting on photo shoots for Express and Fashion Washington, solidified her love of fashion, beauty, and product photography. Her current body of work, LUXE, fuses studio photography with typography to create images that investigate consumer attitudes towards luxury products.
